چکیده

NTERMEDIATE patterns in development have been termed “prepatterns” I by STERN (1954a,b). STERN hypothesized that the determinations of some cells depend on the particular environments of their positions in intermediate patterns and that some genes may act to alter these patterns. A genetically based change in the prepattern could thus indirectly affect the final pattern of differentiated cells. There is good evidence for dependent differentiation in Drosophila metamorphosis. Regulative morphogenic fields within imaginal discs have been shown (HADORN 1953; for review in English see URSPRUNG 1963). Earlier evidence that imaginal disc development is not strictly determinative was the fact that cell lineage is not constant, as shown by the overlapping shapes of the mosaic patches themselves (STERN 1940). Induction of ectodermal structures by mesodermal tissue has been shown in other insects (BOCK 1939). In Drosophila it is possible to produce somatic mosaic such that areas of one genotype appear on a background of a contrasting genotype. X-irradiation during development can cause mitotic crossing over so that the genotype of a proliferating cell can be changed from heterozygosity to homozygosity for a group of linked alleles ( BECKER 1956a, 195 7). Morphogenic mutants linked to marker genes can be used to study the developmental interactions of tissues of different genetic compositions. Marked mosaics of a number of morphogenic mutants have been studied, including mosaics of some homoeotic mutants: the bithorax series (LEWIS 1963) , engrailed (TOKUNAGA 1961), and extra sex comb (C. TOKUNAGA, in preparation). All pattern forming genes studied in this way have proven to be autonomous, each cell differentiating according to its own genotype. These genes apparently effect differential responses to an unchanging prepattern. In the present study, mosaics of a pattern determining mutant dumpy ( d p ) , show a different aspect of pattern formation. Before the mosaics would be meaningful a careful description of the mutant phenotype was necessary.

Aconitase and Developmental EndPointsasEarly IndicatorsofCellularToxicity Induced by Xenobiotics in Drosophila Melanogaster

Background: In this study, the toxicity of the different xenobiotics was tested on the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster model system.  Methods: Fly larvae were raised on food supplemented with xenobioticsat different concentrations (sodium nitroprusside (0.1-1.5 mM), S-nitrosoglutathione (0.5-4 mM), and potassium ferrocyanide (1 mM)). Emergence of flies, food intake by larvae, and pupation h...

Concentration dependent effect of morphine, aspirin, capsaicin and chili pepper hydro alcoholic extract on thermal and chemical pain model in fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster)

Introduction: Pain research using animal models is related to ethical concerns, so invertebrates and insects have been recommended by researchers. In the present study, the nociceptive and antinociceptive effects of capsaicin, aspirin, morphine and chili extract were examined using fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) as an alternative for rodent pain model. Methods: Stage 3 of larvae and ad...

A Molecular Analysis of Mutations at the Complex dumpy Locus in Drosophila melanogaster

The Drosophila dumpy gene consists of seventy eight coding exons and encodes a huge extracellular matrix protein containing large numbers of epidermal growth factor-like (EGF) modules and a novel module called dumpy (DPY). A molecular analysis of forty five mutations in the dumpy gene of Drosophila melanogaster was carried out. Mutations in this gene affect three phenotypes: wing shape, thoraci...

Toxicological Evaluation of a New Lepidopteran Insecticide, Flubendiamide, in Non-Target Drosophila melanogaster Meigen (Diptera: Drosophilidae)

Background: Flubendiamide, comparatively a new pesticide designed to eradicate lepidopteran insect pests is known to have low risk to birds, mammals, fish, algae, honey bees, non-target arthropods, earthworms, soil macro- and micro-organisms, non-target plants as well as sewage treatment organisms; however, the risk assessment for aquatic invertebrates from metabolite could not be finalized wit...

Mutagenesis at a complex locus in Drosophila with the monofunctional alkylating agent, ethyl methanesulfonate.

use of chemical mutagens in Drosophila usually results in the production T:mutants which are composed of mutant and nonmutant tissue. Mutants of this type are referred to as mosaic or fractional, as opposed to the complete or whole body mutants so commonly found in studies of X-ray mutagenesis. For the detection of mosaic and complete mutants, as well as for general mutagenesis studies, the mos...
